Blind in a Blizzard

Blizzard in mountains

There was nothing else to do! In the situation we found ourselves, what else could we do?

We were climbing Little Baldy in the Sangre de Cristo mountain range near Westcliffe, CO. Little Baldy? Hardly an intimidating mountain name, and under normal conditions this 12,982-ft. peak is easy compared to its 14,000-ft neighbors.

What we found ourselves in was hardly normal conditions. As soon as we left the tree slog and started to the ridge, we were blasted with hurricane-force winds. And not just hurricane-force winds but heavy snow. And not just heavy snow, but pelting hail. These blizzard-like conditions made visibility next to zero.

With our path obscured, there was only one thing to do--take the next step! Then the next step, and the next step, and the next step. After a long series of next steps, we had reached our goal--we reached the summit.

As Christians, are daily lives are not all that different. When the storms of life are raging, we are often frustrated and confused. God, what are you doing? Why is this happening? I can’t see the way. I don’t know the end. I don’t know what to do. You can almost hear the Savior say, “Take the next step.” And that’s just what to do. If you’re a dad, get up and go to work. If you’re a mom, make the next meal. If you’re a child, work at your studies. Whatever your situation in life, just take the next step. God never promises that we’ll see the entire road, but He does promise that He’ll order our steps (Psalm 37:23). As we acknowledge Him in each step, He promises to direct our paths (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Have the trials of life clouded your way? Take the next step!
