Stuck. No power, nowhere to go, nothing to do but play in the snow. We hadn’t been expecting 15 inches of snow to fall on our second-to-last night in Westcliffe, Colorado—we’d been fine for the past two weeks. But when we woke up on Friday morning, the day before travel, the world was coated in a thick white blanket, and we had no electricity. We couldn’t be certain, but we all knew deep down that we would be snowed in till at least Sunday. There were mixed feelings all around—living in an RV without power is very difficult indeed, but for the moment, we could focus on enjoying the white world outside. And enjoy it we did. Quick as ever we had our sleds out and were zipping down the smooth white hill behind our site. Soon we’d worn an icy chute into the hillside, which we named “canola oil” because it was so fast. The day was soon gone, we were having so much fun. But by dinnertime we were completely spent and eager to eat the snacks we had stockpiled the day before.

The next day (Saturday) revealed a slushy, soupy, sloppy mess. The power had turned back on, but the dirt roads were still too messy to drive out on. So we settled down to a relaxing day. We were worn out from our crazy sledding.

Our plans for the weekend were drastically changed, but it ended up being one of the best weekends we’d had in a while. And we were, in fact, able to leave on Sunday. God took care of us in an unexpected way!

It’s simple: God is holy and just. That means He must punish sin. Because we have all broken God’s Law, we are sinners who deserve God’s wrath. God’s punishment for sin is eternal death in Hell. But because He loves you, He became a Man—Jesus-- and died on the Cross to be punished instead of you. Then, Jesus was buried and rose again alive into Heaven! To receive this gift of eternal life, you must repent (turn from your sin) and trust in Jesus’ sacrifice to save you from God’s wrath against your sin.
